Will stainless steel castings be attracted to magnets?

1. What is magnet attraction?

Magnets attract ferromagnetic blocks.

Whether it can be attracted by a magnet essentially depends on the content of ferromagnetic chemical substances in the object. The greater the content, it will be attracted, and the smaller the content, it will not be easy to survive and cannot be attracted by the magnet.

2. What material is stainless steel casting product?

Divided into 3 categories: low alloy steel, ferritic stainless steel and martensitic stainless steel.

Low alloy steel contains 16%-26% chromium and less than 35% nickel. It generally has excellent corrosion resistance, cannot be enhanced by quenching and tempering, and is non-magnetic; the common type is 18\/8, or grade 304, which is 18% Chromium and 8 percent nickel; airport industry, dairy and grain processing industries are typical main uses.

Standard ferritic stainless steel contains 10.5%-27% chromium and no nickel. Due to the low carbon content (less than 0.2%), it cannot be strengthened by quenching and tempering. It is only used in engineering construction, automobile decoration and other places where corrosion resistance requirements are too low. place.

Martensitic stainless steel usually contains 11.5%-18% chromium and less than 1.2% carbon, sometimes also containing nickel. It can be strengthened according to quenching and tempering treatment. It has medium corrosion resistance and is used in CNC blades, general surgical supplies, wrenches and turbine engines. .

Stainless steel plates are mixed blocks (aluminum alloys), not a single chemical substance. Due to the higher chromium and nickel added to the steel, the internal mechanisms of the steel exhibit a mechanism called ferrite. These mechanisms do not have magnetic conduction bands, Cannot be attracted by magnets. Ferritic stainless steel and martensitic stainless steel are ferromagnetic.

In other words, low alloy steel has a low content of ferromagnetic chemicals, so it is difficult or unable to be attracted by magnets; while ferritic stainless steel and martensitic stainless steel have a high content of ferromagnetic chemicals and can generally be attracted by magnets.
