Stainless steel casting processing is a complex and technically demanding process in the manufacturing industry, involving mold design, smelting, pouring, post-processing and other aspects. This article will systematically analyze the entire process to help practitioners master key process nodes.

1. Mold design and preparation

Mold is the basis of stainless steel casting, and it needs to take into account both structural rationality and durability.

  1. Material selection: Heat-resistant alloy steel or graphite molds are commonly used, and the mold parting surface needs to be determined according to the size and complexity of the casting.

  2. 3D modeling verification: Analyze the filling process through simulation software to optimize the design of the pouring system and vents

  3. surface treatment: The mold cavity needs to be nitrided or chromium plated to improve thermal fatigue resistance

2. Smelting and pouring process

Stainless steel smelting requires strict control of ingredients and temperature:

  • Raw material ratio:304\/316 and other brands need to ensure that the Cr\/Ni content deviation is less than or equal to 0.5 percentage

  • Deoxidation treatment: Use argon gas to protect melting to reduce oxide inclusions

  • Pouring control:The temperature is maintained at 1500-1550 degrees Celsius, and a bottom pouring ladle is used to reduce turbulence

3. Forming and cooling management

  1. solidification control:

    • Install cold iron in thick wall parts to speed up cooling

    • Use insulation cotton in thin-walled areas to delay solidification

  2. stress prevention:

    • Step cooling, cooling does not exceed 80 degrees Celsius per hour

    • Large castings require vibration aging treatment

4. Key steps in post-processing

  1. Cutting and cleaning:

    • Plasma cutting to remove gate and riser

    • Shot peening to remove surface oxide layer

  2. heat treatment:

    • Solution treatment (water quenching at 1050-1100 degrees Celsius) improves corrosion resistance

    • Stress annealing is suitable for load-bearing parts

  3. Quality inspection:

    • Penetrant inspection to detect surface cracks

    • X-ray detection of internal defects

5. Response to common problems

  • Problem 1: Slag inclusion defect
    Reason: Insufficient deoxidation during smelting
Countermeasures: Increase the slag agent and extend the standing time

  • Problem 2: The size is out of tolerance
Reason: Mold wear or uneven cooling
Countermeasures: Regularly check mold dimensions and optimize cooling system

Every aspect of stainless steel casting processing affects the quality of the finished product, and process parameters need to be strictly controlled. With the application of digital technology, real-time monitoring systems are becoming a new direction to improve stability.
