What are the differences between high and low carbon content in carbon steel castings?

The main differences between the carbon content of carbon steel castings are as follows:

Low carbon steel. The carbon content is between 0.0218% and 0.25%. It has low strength and limited application fields. During the production process, some manganese, vanadium, titanium, niobium and other elements will be added to effectively improve the strength of the casting.

Medium carbon steel. It contains slightly more carbon and has enhanced strength, but its weldability is poor. Generally, the higher the carbon content, the thicker the steel plate is, and cold cracks are prone to occur during welding.

High carbon steel. The carbon content is between 0.6% and 2.11%. It is a relatively common type of carbon steel castings. Due to the high internal carbon content, the weldability is very poor. However, gentle cooling is required during welding to reduce the formation of cracks.
