In the field of industrial manufacturing, stainless steel castings are widely used in medical equipment, food machinery, chemical equipment and other industries due to their corrosion resistance, high strength and other properties. However, stainless steel materials are difficult to process. How to ensure that the processed castings meet the design requirements? This article will analyze the five key technologies in the processing of stainless steel castings to help industry practitioners optimize the process and improve the quality of finished products.

1. Material selection and preprocessing

The performance of stainless steel castings is closely related to the raw materials. Common grades such as 304 and 316 have differences in corrosion resistance and mechanical strength, and they need to be selected appropriately according to the application scenario. Before processing, annealing treatment is required to eliminate casting stress and avoid deformation or cracking due to internal stress in the material during subsequent processing.

2. Reasonable use of CNC machine tools

Stainless steel has high hardness, and it is easy to generate cutting heat during processing, resulting in accelerated tool wear. Therefore, it is necessary to choose a CNC machine tool with strong rigidity and adopt a low-speed and large-feed cutting strategy to reduce the accumulation of cutting heat. At the same time, the use of coated tools (such as TiAlN coating) can extend tool life and ensure processing stability.

3. Optimization of cutting parameters

Stainless steel has a high viscosity, and it is easy to produce built-up edge during cutting, which affects the surface finish. Reasonable cutting parameters (such as cutting speed, feed, and depth of cut) can effectively reduce such problems. For example, when processing austenitic stainless steel, a lower cutting speed (80-120m\/min) is especially used with a moderate feed to ensure smooth discharge of chips.

4. Cooling and lubrication technology

The high temperature during stainless steel machining can easily cause the workpiece to deform, so the selection of coolant is crucial. It is recommended to use water-soluble coolant containing extreme pressure additives, which can not only effectively cool down, but also reduce the friction between the tool and the workpiece. For deep hole processing or complex structural parts, high-pressure internal cooling technology can be used to ensure that the coolant reaches the cutting area directly.

5. Post-processing and quality inspection

After processing is completed, the castings need to be deburred, polished and other post-processing to meet the surface requirements of different industries. In addition, a 3-coordinate measuring machine (CMM) or optical profiler should be used to detect key dimensions to ensure that tolerances are controlled within the allowable range. For high-demand medical or aerospace components, non-destructive testing such as X-ray flaw detection is also required to eliminate internal defects.

Stainless steel casting processing involves multiple key processes, from material selection to testing, each link directly affects the quality of the finished product. Mastering the above five major technical points can effectively improve processing stability, reduce scrap rates, and meet the application needs of different industries. In the future, with the development of intelligent processing technology, stainless steel casting processing technology will be further optimized to provide more reliable solutions for the manufacturing industry.
