Description of common cleaning methods for precision casting castings

Precision casting is a high-quality steel or alloy material processing technology. There is a process to clean the casting. The precision casting is removed from the mold. In addition to the body, the excess part must be removed. There are several cleaning methods. Let us introduce what are the cleaning methods of castings in precision casting?

1. Shot blasting: use steel shot, iron shot, and abrasive particle flow to move at high speed to remove cores, sand particles, and the surface of castings. At present, the commonly used shot blasting cleaning equipment includes shot blasting cleaning room, shot blasting cleaning room and so on. Shot blasting machines used in continuous production include chain plate shot blasting rollers, continuous shot blasting machines, and suspended continuous production shot blasting rooms. The operation and maintenance cost of this kind of equipment is relatively high.

2. High-pressure cleaning: use nozzles to transport high-pressure water through the pipeline to the processed castings, relying on the kinetic energy and scouring of the water flow to remove the cores and sticky sand of the castings. The open sand cleaning room is generally composed of section steel and steel plate. The bottom is equipped with a rotary table. The spray gun is installed on the side wall and can be moved up and down to rotate, so that the high-pressure water jet can shoot out any part except the bottom of the casting. Sometimes, in order to improve the efficiency of sand sticking on the surface of precision castings, abrasives such as quartz sand are introduced into the appropriate position of the spray gun to obtain high-speed water sand flow. Generally called water sand cleaning.

3. Water explosion cleaning: After casting, it is cooled to the set temperature and immediately immersed in the water tank. The water penetrates into the mold through various gaps, and it quickly vaporizes and explodes in contact with high-temperature metal, so that the sand inside and outside the casting is basically removed. Due to its short working time and high efficiency, the water-blast sand cleaning process is widely used in steel casting plants in China. Generally used to process simple steel castings with carbon content less than 0.35%.

4. Drum cleaning: the castings and star iron are installed together. When the rotating drum body rotates, it relies on the collision and friction between the castings, iron parts and waste sand to clean the sand inside and outside the castings. Polishing can partially remove flash and burrs at the same time. It is suitable for cleaning small and medium-sized castings with simple shapes and thick walls.
