Analysis of the differences in performance characteristics between alloy steel casting and ordinary cast iron

1. The difference between strength and toughness
Ordinary cast iron is mainly composed of iron and carbon and has a high carbon content, which makes it have good casting performance and shock absorption, but its tensile strength and toughness are limited. Ordinary cast iron parts are prone to brittle fracture when subjected to impact or heavy load. However, alloy steel casting is made by adding additives to the steel. The addition of chromium, nickel, molybdenum and other elements significantly improves the overall performance of the material. For example, the yield strength and tensile strength of alloy steel are usually higher than ordinary cast iron. It also has better toughness and can withstand higher dynamic loads, making it suitable for environments with strict strength requirements.

2. The difference between wear resistance and service life
In situations with frequent wear, such as mining machinery or heavy equipment, the wear resistance of the material directly affects the replacement cycle of components. Although the hardness of ordinary cast iron can meet general needs, its surface is prone to peeling or deformation under long-term high stress wear. Because alloy steel casting contains carbide-forming elements, its structure is more uniform, the hardness is higher, and the wear resistance is significantly improved, which helps to extend the service life of components and reduce maintenance frequency.

3. Corrosion resistance and environmental adaptability
Ordinary cast iron is prone to rust in humid or chemical media environments and has weak corrosion resistance, which needs to be improved through surface treatment. Alloy steel casting can enhance the corrosion resistance by adjusting the element ratio (such as increasing the chromium content), so that it can still maintain stability under harsh conditions (such as high temperature, acidic environment). This feature makes alloy steel more applicable in chemical industry, marine engineering and other fields.

4. Comparison of application scope
Ordinary cast iron is mostly used in cost-sensitive and low-load scenarios such as machine tool bases and pipelines. However, alloy steel casting has a wide range of performance adaptability and is commonly used in aviation, automotive transmission systems, energy equipment and other fields with complex material requirements. Its balance of capabilities makes it a more suitable choice in many industrial scenarios.

In summary, alloy steel casting outperforms ordinary cast iron in terms of strength, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance, and can adapt to more complex working environments. Although ordinary cast iron still has its value in terms of cost and shock absorption, the comprehensive performance of alloy steel makes it occupy an important position in demanding industrial applications. Reasonable selection of materials can help improve equipment reliability and economy.
